One of the hardiest houseplants, it is one of the best for low light areas, and it is forgiving if not watered regularly. Can tolerate a windowless room, but does better with some light. Likes cool temperatures but can tolerate hot weather. Also tolerant of light freezes making it a good patio choice in temperate climates. Can take unusually low humidity without typical leaf-tip browning. Does not mind being rootbound. Comes with green or green-white striped large, leathery leaves. Too much fertilizer will cause variegated leaves to lose their white markings, so feed lightly only every 2 or 3 months. This plant is not a heavy feeder.
