About Us
Weekend Gardener Web Magazine is written, designed, and produced by Hilary Rinaldi. On the other side of the office is Murphy Rinaldi who has final editorial say, since she is the Editor in Chief.
We do occasionally invite guest writers to submit articles, or we re-publish stories of interest, with full credit and bylines, since as you can imagine, the amount of information provided here is daunting to keep up with.
Notes from both Hilary and Murphy are below.

Hello Gardeners!
I have been in the landscape industry professionally for over 20 years and am a Certified Organic Grower.
I graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture in 1988. While I was there, I took full advantage of a very robust horticulture program. I worked in all the project greenhouses including, Tropicals, Cut Flowers, Orchids, Seedling, and the Student Project House (where other students grew their plant projects).
I also worked outdoors in the retail nursery we had on campus, the wholesale nursery, the arboretum, the herbaceous garden, and I grew my own plant projects too.
I took advantage of Cal Poly's internship programs, and worked at Cardiff Stud Farm, a 1500+ acre ranch, the largest thoroughbred horse ranch in California at that time, doing their annual color, landscape maintenance, and other assorted jobs on a ranch that size, including clearing trench for part of their irrigation.
I left Cal Poly with a great deal of background, but, there is always more to learn!
Once in the real world, I went on to work in every aspect of the horticulture industry from wholesale nurseries growing annual color and perennials, to retail nursery sales, landscape installation and maintenance, to finally doing International Marketing for Waller Seed Company, now known as Waller Genetics and part of PanAmerican Seed.
During these years, I had the unique opportunity to go on television as The Weekend Gardener. It was the top rated segment on NBC Affiliates KSBY and KSBW television for the entire three years it ran. It was there that I learned how much I loved passing on gardening information to other people.
I willingly left KSBY, and while I am happy to be out of the television world, I have missed passing on my love of gardening to others, so I started this magazine back in 2000.
I pour every bit of my experience into this magazine. You are a well educated group and I need to stay on my toes!
I hope you enjoy and get something useful out of it, because I enjoy producing it, and I always learn something new while writing the articles.
Currently I am active in the gardening world, giving talks and attending pack trials etc., and I am available through the Question and Answer portion of this magazine, for any plant questions or problems you are having.
So keep in touch, and as always.....Enjoy
Your Weekend... In the Garden!

Hello Fellow Diggers!
Man, did you ever think Hilary would stop talking about herself? Gee Whiz!
Having read that, you see why I rule her with an iron paw when it comes to editing her articles!
I tell her all the time, fewer words, Hilary, fewer words. She doesn't always listen to me, but then again I don't always listen to her either. We have the perfect working relationship. I sleep on my big bed, and she works!
Now I don't want you to think I'm not a serious gardener too. There is nothing I like better than to get out and do some good digging and transplanting of annual color and shrubs.
Why just the other day I moved all the annual color from a large pot onto the concrete. That was some good work, and I did it all without getting a hair out of place.
Anyway, I'm here watching that the articles don't get too long, and windy, and since I have my own opinions on things, you can always write me too. Hilary isn't the only expert around here. Bye for now!
